Taking a grueling journey around Absecon Island as competitors from across the globe propel their paddleboards to #PaddleItForward to help people with cancer. Registration is now open for the 12th Annual Dean Randazzo Cancer Foundation Paddle For A Cause Presented by Seashore Construction, Saturday, June 8 at Frank S. Farley State Marina at Golden Nugget Atlantic City.

More than 100 stand-up and prone paddleboarders, in addition to competitors in other types of watercraft including outrigger canoes, surf-skis, kayaks and rowboats, will embark on a 22.5-mile journey designed to test competitors mentally and physically similar to someone battling cancer or an 8-mile race for less seasoned paddlers. There are also two options for people who want to participate in a non-competitive paddle. There is an 8-mile paddle to the Wonder Bar and back and a 4-mile option that finishes at the Wonder Bar.

In 2018 we switched to a new fundraising platform called Crowdrise to make things simpler for you. Follow the instructions below to get set up.

Create Your Fundraising Profile

  1. Go to www.crowdrise.com/pfac2019
  2. Create your individual or team fundraising page at Crowdrise and click “Create Fundraiser” and select “Paddler Individual,” “Paddler TEAM” or “Virtual Fundraiser”
  3. Follow the steps to enter your information and setup your fundraiser.
  4. Click “Setup Campaign”
  5. Login or Register using Facebook (you can control what information you share with Crowdrise) or Enter your name and basic information
  6. Customize your fundraising page with photos and text
  7. Click “PaddleGuru” button or click here to register on Paddle Guru
  8. Share your fundraising page regularly on social media or via email to raise funds to help the DRCF fight cancer in our community.

Create or Join a Team (For Relay Race Paddlers):

  • Follow the steps above but select “Paddler TEAM” you can create a fundraising team or join a team to fundraise as a group

Event Details

June 8, 2019 – Golden Nugget Casino, Atlantic City
Registration area is located at the rear of ground parking lot

22.5-Mile Race (solo and team relay)
Registration / check-in 6:30 a.m. – 7:45 a.m.
Pre-paddle meeting for all paddlers will begin at 7:45 a.m.
Race Starts at 8:00 a.m.

Memorial Paddle Out
All are invited to join and paddle out on a surfboard, paddleboard or anything that floats or simply watch from the dock to help honor or pay tribute to a friend or loved one. The ceremony will begin at 9:45 a.m. Saturday, June 8, 2019 at Golden Nugget Atlantic City, to be followed immediately by the start of the 8-mile race and 4-mile and 8-mile fun paddles. Honor Stones can be purchased on our website and will be cast into the water as part of the ceremony.

8-Mile Race/4-Mile and 8-Mile Back Bay Fun Paddles
Registration / Paddler check-in 8:15 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.
Pre-paddle meeting on the water at 9:45 a.m.
Paddle starts at 10:00 a.m.

Newer paddlers can join the 4-Mile paddle to the Wonderbar where return transportation for the paddler and their board awaits or the 8-Mile round trip paddle to the Wonderbar and back.  These events are a great way to support the cause for those that are new to the sport of paddling or those simply looking to have a good time with friends.

Virtual Paddlers
If you are unable to compete in any of the paddle events you can still get in on the action. Virtual Paddlers simply create a fundraising account on Crowdrise and help to raise money for the foundation. This is a great way for young children and those with physical limitations to help out a great cause. There is no minimum fundraising limit for Virtual Paddlers, but those who raise the minimum $200 entry fee will receive a swag bag race gear and after party ticket that is provided to all paddlers.

Board Storage
Boards and other water craft can be stored overnight on Friday or Saturday. Representatives from the DRCF will be on site overnight to ensure all equipment is safely stored.

Please review the attached WPA rulebook. These are the rules sanctioned by the World Paddle Association and must be adhered to.

The Dean Randazzo Cancer Foundation Paddle For A Cause WPA Sanctioned Race Divisions are:

The race will be timed by division and gender.

The prize money will be awarded to the following divisions, dependent on a presenting sponsor

Mens Open Prone
Mens 14′ and under SUP
Womens Open Prone
Womens 14′ and under SUP

1st = $800
2nd= $350
3rd= $150


Surf Ski Single
This year we will be awarding trophies to the top three overall Surf Ski competitors, this is a break from our past tradition and prize money of $250, $150, $100 will be offered for first, second and third place finishers.

Outrigger Canoe OC-1
This year we will be awarding trophies to the top three overall OC-1 competitors, this is also a new addition for 2019 and prize money of $250, $150, $100 will be offered for first, second and third place finishers, respectively.

8-mile Race
This year we will be awarding trophies to the top three overall 8-mile race finishers. No prize money will be offered, but bragging rights will be awarded for one calendar year.

Open Division
Kayaks, Lifeguard boats and anything else you can paddle. Trophies will be awarded to open paddlers depending on the number of registrations received in the open category.

Please allow the faster racers to start first. Anyone in the open division not on an SUP or prone must start behind the racers.  Thank you for your understanding.

Golden Nugget After Party & Evening Events 

Tickets are  $25 at the door so encourage your friends, family and neighbors to come out and join the fun. If you haven’t already done so and wish to stay at the Golden Nugget the night of the event it is not too late.

An amazing after party has been planned for 4 p.m. including food, live entertainment and award ceremony.

A limited number of discounted rooms are available from the Golden Nugget on a first come, first serve basis. The cut off for reservations is May 25

Residents with homes along paddle course Atlantic City, Ventnor, Margate and Longport are encouraged to show support the paddlers as they pass.

Please note: *In the event of inclement weather preventing the race from taking place no refunds will be given for funds raised or sponsor donations. All proceed benefit the Dean Randazzo Cancer Foundation and are utilized to provide financial relief to cancer victims, their families and local cancer centers.
